The sound is just amazing! I already have a Razor Kraken Pro and by far the logitech headset is better, and half a price.

Are they good for hearing foot steps?

Of course, I play a lot Rainbow Six Siege and I hear clearly the footsteeps of the enemy on the next room.

People said that you need an Xbox controller for some games. Is this true? If so will and Xbox 360 controller work

For some games maybe you should need it but is up to you, most of the games use the Oculus touch controllers. The Rift comes with 6 games and none of them needs the xbox controller.
