Can I use this as a backup for pictures on my phone

I want to use this device not just to save files from my pc but also to save photos and videos from my Galaxy Note6. I do not want to pay for more cloud space with Verizon when I could use an external hard drive.

use for PC gaming with 3.0 usb

i see it has been used for x box but want to be sure it runs good for pc games with 3.0 usb for loading?
I think it would work great for gaming. The reviews say it will. I do do much gaming just playing music and viewing photos

Can hardware encryption be turned off?

I just want to keep an extra back up copies on photos (nothing "confidential". I don't know how encryption works, but want to be able to use the back up files on any PC without doing anythign special or remember passwords, etc....
I don't know but I do know that all I do is plug in the USB and transfer or view. I don't have to enter passwords. I think the encryption is automatic
