Got a Chromecast and had the little unit up and running a few minutes after getting it out of the packaging, so that was easy. The device is limited but its also cheap and reliable, works well for what it does.
I would recommend this to a friend!

do I need to run Google Chrome to use chromecast

I had the same question and what I've found so far is "yes, I need to be on Google Chrome to use the Chromecast". I wanted to use it view photos and couldn't unless I uploaded the photos to Google. So, if its on your chrome browser it works fine. Good luck,
