The title says simple. That's completely truth. The installation was in like 5 minutes ( including advanced configuration ) but this is also truth about the normal use. This router is perfect for a short quantity of devices.

What cable modem would you recommend to work with this router?

It can be used with almost any modem. But remember the quantity of devices to be connected and this means indirectly also the velocity of the modem.
