My ninternet comes through cable company. Do I need a router in my house to use roku stick?

My TV is Insignia 19"
Yes, a router is needed to transmit the wifi signal to the Roku device. Don't forget that Roku requires high speed internet.

If you have high speed internet then you may want to purchase a good router that will allow for the highest data transfer like a Netgear N600 or Netgear N450. Anything less makes no sense with high speed internet since it slows down the data transfer rate which reduces the speed of your wifi connection.

Hope this helps.

As a gift for someone without cable and older tv, will it work.

No. As for Roku, it requires High Speed internet. If you do not have the internet then it will not do you any good to purchase one.

As for the older TV, Roku stick is not a good choice for the older TV since it requires an HDMI connection, which older TV's usually do not have. However, the Roku 2 and Roku 3 have a way for you to connect the Roku to your TV using 3 wires, red, white and yellow which all older TV's tend to have. These are the same red, white and yellow wires that we used to connect our old VCR's to our TV's.

Hope this helps.

Does it work with OS Vista

Does it work with Vista (Chromecast does not) and does it work with Netgear WiFi and has it got You Tube capabilities.
If I understand your question, Netgear is your cable's modem/router? Netgear also makes modem/routers for DSL internet connections too.

If your question is about a cable modem/router then I can answer that since I have this same kind of modem/router that all my devices retrieve the wifi signal from. This includes Roku.

As to your question about Vista, this is your version of Windows. It is an older version of Windows that many people didn't like back in the day and still do not like because of problems with its interaction with other Window's based software. However, even Window's Vista can access the internet (Internet Explorer) which is all you need to be able to set up your Roku account.

YouTube is a free channel on Roku.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

Can you easily switch back and forth from your regular cable tv ( actually not cable..Fios fiber optic) then switch watch roku channels Acorn and

To watch Roku on your TV once you have installed and set up your Roku choices, you need to use your TV's remote control to change your input or source (each TV may use different terms for this button on the remote). Look for this button on your TV's remote control. Once you find it, hit the button, and a list of different options such as: Cable, Air, Antenna, HDMI, HDMI 1, Component 1, ect..., appear. Choose the source that you used to connect the Roku to your TV. For the stick it would logically be one of the HDMI's. Select them and see which one the Roku home page comes up on, and this is how you change from viewing Roku back to your normal Cable channels, or antenna channels.

Hope this helps.

With stick is it always on or when you turn off TV with Fios wand and box does the stick turn off too Does stick need to reboot each time you turn

The remote control for this Roku doesn't have an on/off button so it stays on all the time. You can turn it off manually yourself by unplugging it from the outlet.

If you unplug the Roku, when you plug it back into the electric socket, it might take a few minutes to load back up on your TV. This all depends on how fast your cable connection is. Don't forget that you need High Speed internet in order for this device to be useful venture.

What apps or websites can you access with this?

What apps or websites can you access with this stick? Is amazon prime accessible? HBO GO?
Showtime anytime? ??? I bought a smart tv recently and discovered that NOT all are created equal. Not every app is available.
With most of the channels available on Roku, not all of these are free. You have to purchase a membership to see these channels such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. However, there are channels that you may be viewing already through your cable subscription such as Lifetime, HBO, and Fox. All of these channels are available on the Roku channel store, but the procedure for these channels is to provide Roku with your cable company and then prove your membership during set up. It's a little bit different to set these up, but it is fairly easy to do.

Roku also has a lot of free channels such as YouTube, PBS, Food networks, and others.

To find out more information about Roku channels go to the Roku website.

Hope this helps.

does the device needs to be charged or is it battery powered

An electrical outlet is required to power this device. It comes with a power cord which you plug into the outlet near the TV.

I hope this answers your questions.

Does The Roku Streaming Stick have the same number of channels as the other Roku products?

I have this product, and have helped friends to set up their Roku 2's in their homes, and can tell you that both products offer access to the same channels on the channel store.

The Roku stick is the cheapest of all the Roku devices, and the major difference is that this item connects to your TV by means of an HDMI wire. If your TV doesn't have an HDMI connection on it like many older TV's do not, then you would need to purchase one of the other Roku devices that allow connection to your TV using the red, white, and yellow wires. I don't remember what these are called but chances are that you've used these wires before to connect a VCR or DVD player to your TV.

I hope this answers your question.

If you are streaming from your iPhone or iPad can you take calls and answer emails and use other apps while watching TV roku

Roku is an item that is connected to your Television. When using your tablet or smartphone it is connecting directly to your wifi (internet.) Usually, when watching on these devises, you have the browser that can be used to take you directly where you need to go. Also, you can install apps on these devices that you can use to watch TV and movies such as Hulu Plus, Netflix, ect...

From what I understand there is a Roku app available for IPads, tablets, IPhones, and smartphones, but this app is to allow the device to operate as the remote control to the Roku device. However, I think that all the Roku's come with a remote control so I don't know why this app would be needed.

Normally, if your watching something on your IPad, or IPhone when you receive a call, it interrupts what you are watching so that you can take the call.

I hope this helps to answer your question.
