I mostly wanted a running GPS watch that was capable of heart rate monitoring. This has multi-sport capability (and most tri-watches are $300+) and can double as a daily activity tracker. Definitely a great value and performs well for running/cycling. As a Polar product, it also has some of the most accurate HR monitoring (strap) which I trust more than the new wrist based HR monitors (which can be wildly inaccurate).

Is this the same HRM that comes with M400?
Is this the same HRM that comes with the M400 package deal? Best Buy currently has both the M400 and this item on sale for less than the two items bundled, so I wanted to buy them separate if it is the same item. Thanks.
Yes, this is the monitor that comes with the M400 and I took advantage of that goofy pricing as well.

Swimming
It says it's water proof up to 100 feet/30 meters. If I wear it when I swim in a pool will it be safe from water damage and will it record the speed, time, distance and the calories I lost as a result of say for example a one hours swim.
It will not be damaged by going into the water (I have used it for open water ocean swims and in chlorinated pools). However, the watch can have trouble acquiring GPS signal while underwater and it won't really track those metrics during an indoor swim. For serious swim training, I would not recommend this watch.
