How does Self Clean+ feature work to prevent mold?

Does the washer use heat or some fan to dry its interior, or does Self Clean+ mean some sort of washing cycle to rinse mold off the washer?

I have only had the washer for about a month.. used the self clean option once and it does not use heat or a fan it seems to be just a long wash cycle, I would recommend doing it at night.
