cant get it to work, hooked up, red yellow, white from dvd player to tv, please help
If you are hooked up that way, you need to make sure your TV Input is also changed. Scroll through your TV inputs until the picture comes up. In most cases it would read "Video".

I'm using component video & audio wire connection to connect up to a 50 inch Samsung TV. I'm getting a clear picture, but no sound. Any suggestions?
As long as your using all five component wires you should hear sound. Make sure your audio cable (red+white) are in the correct input and output.
