Good capacity after drive software and formatting, over 1.8 TB. Software install was simple, but not automatic. I also found it less than intuitive. Twice I thought I had it, the third time I used Windows (7) to initiate the back-up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Will I be able to transfer photos from my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone to this device?

You will have to go through a computer or an online storage like Dropbox. But if you connect both devices to your computer you can easily transfer files between them. I bought this to help back up the family accounts, and cameras.

Can I use 1 device for a Mac & PC?

I have a Mac & a PC that I need to backup. I can I use 1 of these devices for both at the same time or do I have to get 1 devices?
There is software onboard for both Mac and PC. Install that and you should be ready.
