Fairly accurate step and distance counter. Got the chest strap package and it's accurate as well. Nice design and doesn't look like a fitness wearable to most. Looks like a thick bracelet. Wear it every day!

Does the Vivosmart with heart rate monitoring require a seperate strap/band or do you still have just the Vivosmart tracker only

it requires a seperate chest strap or arm band. Any ANT+ heart rate monitor can be used. Chest straps are more accurate for exercise than any current wrist ones. If you're not interested in resting HR, this works great. There are also several styles of chest straps you can buy to suit your style and needs.

what sleep details does the Garmin Vivosmart track?

light, deep, REM sleep tracked?
It doesn't track sleep type like other trackers. It gives a chart showing how much movement you've had throughout the night. It's simple but, you're body is temporarily paralyzed during REM and there is very little movement in stages 3 and 4 of sleep anyway. So to me, the more times I have no/little activity the more times i probably got deep/REM sleep. And if you're moving all over, you know you didn't sleep well.
