If you're using windows 10 or an OS that has a GPT partitioning format, then all you have to do is plug this drive in and use the GPT formatting option.. Fairly simple. If you're using Windows 7, You can use the Seagate disk tools to activate over the 2 TB limit and get the full 3 TB. Although it will be split into two partitions on Win 7.

On website for this item it describes "Hard Drive Capacity:" and then three boxes: 1GB, 3GB and 4GB. Typo that needs to be fixed?

The hard drive probably comes in different storage sizes. You can choose a 1 GB, 3GB, or a 4 GB hard drive. Most hard drives have different sizes.
