We have been very pleased with this little speaker. We originally bought it for use in the kitchen to listen to music while cooking, but we recently used it on a road trip from DC to Chicago, and the battery lasted the entire trip. The sound is also amazingly powerful for such a small unit. The only minor thing I would mention (which could be a positive or a negative depending on what you are looking for) is that the sound is very directional. Thus, if you sit the speaker on a table in the middle of a room, the area behind the speaker will not be able to hear it very well. For our road trip, we needed to sit the speaker on the dash board for everyone to hear it. That said, as long as the speaker is generally facing you, it has a lot of power and sound quality, especially for such a small speaker.

Can it be used outdoors

It is not meant for being exposed to the elements and/or being stored outside, but it is a very solid unit and could easily be used at a cookout or other outdoor gathering as long as it's not raining or anything like that.
