I bought this vacuum cleaner after reading all the positive reviews. There is a lot to like about it, but one big overriding negative. Almost every time I vacuum, it overheats and shuts off. You have to wait a long time for it to cool down and reset itself (no reset button). You also have to clean the pre-filter by rinsing it in water. However, if you do that you have to wait hours for it to dry or risk mold. Hoover reps tells you to do all this and act like that is normal. It is in fact a major design flaw. No vacuum cleaner should clog so easily and cause the motor to overheat. Do NOT buy this machine. Read the many reviews on this site and online about this well known problem. I wish I had done that and never bought this lousy machine. Since nothing is technically broken, the 5 year warranty is useless until the motor burns out. So I'll fight with it until then I guess. What a waste of money!

the vac stopped while I was vaccumning. I got most of the dust out of the filter. how do i get it to start again.l is there a reset button?

No reset button. You must wait for the motor to cool down and reset itself. You should also clean the filter or it will overheat again.
