Do I have to have an active line in my home to use this with a router?
I don't have internet in my home and was wondering could I use this with a router to have access to the internet?

I can see how many people will take up on this opportunity to be jerks, and scold you for asking this.
Yes, you do need an active line that a provider deems "active" to effectively use this device to access the internet. This device is a combo deal, it acts both as a modem and a router. But if you already own a router, then you can easily mute all routing functions, thus this would act as a modem only. But, before getting this gem of technology, I would suggest checking with your DSL provider to see if this device will work with their lines/system.
