Great router. At a reasonable price. Probably the only downside to it is that it has about a 30ft bandwidth so if you get any further than that poof their goes your wifi.
I would recommend this to a friend!

To use a NETGEAR - N600 Dual Band Wireless-N Router for access to Cox, will I need to purchase a new cable modem?

If cox is your Internet provider they provide you with a free modem.

Is the modem included? I'm a newb on purchasing these things -- it seemed in the specs like this had an in-built modem as well. Is that the case? Would this work as a single device to connect with my internet service?

No the modem is not included. It can connect to your desktop or laptop via ethernet cable. Or you can set it up for wireless. It has four ethernet ports for wired Internet access. Hope this helps
