This accessory fit my needs perfectly. I was looking to add the functionality of muting the detector from a more convenient spot on my dashboard. I modified the unit and was able to flush it into my dashboard and retain a completely stock appearance. I then ran the power cord through the dash, up the a pillar and across in the headliner to the rear view mirror. Makes for a very clean installation. I would think that everybody who purchases an Escort detector would want to buy this and build themselves a clean install.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a great detector. Seems to work very well, also has a diminutive design that is aesthetically pleasing. That said, If I could have gotten a working demo or if Best Buy actually had product in a display case where it could seen it before purchase, I would not have purchased this particular model. The OLED screen is not of a resolution that you would expect from a modern device with an OLED screen. The kicker was the verbiage that the detector was EscortLive compatible... only if you purchase a special power adaptor that has an inclusive BlueTooth chip (approximately $100 and not available at Best Buy). This was not very clear on the packaging. Other models have the bluetooth chip within, so I ended up returning this model for a MAX360. I would recommend this detector to anyone who does not plan to utilize Escort Live. I do miss it's aesthetics. The 360 is much larger, in comparison.

does this work with a passport 9500ix detector?

As long as the power plug is a old school telephone headset connector, yes.

does it have a usb power cord?

When I purchased one, it came with a cigarette lighter adaptor that terminated to an old school 4-pin phone jack.

Do we NEED to download the app for the radar to work?

No, you do not need to download the app to make the detector work. In fact, the X70 is only compatible with EscortLive if you purchase the optional EscortLive power cord, so out of the box the X70 cannot connect to your phone to make use of the app.
