What's great about it: Extremely quiet, washes big loads & very user friendly
What's not so great: You can't mix towels & sheets...it gets unbalanced easily.
My last washing machine lasted me 19 years with no service calls until it finally died, so this machine has a lot to live up to. I did a LOT of research on top loading washing machines and ultimately chose this one because it was Consumer Reports' highest rated top loading machine. The price is excellent for the features and large capacity. I've owned it for four weeks now and absolutely love it. The only issue I've run into is that if you mix heavy fabrics with lighter weight fabrics (like sheets & towels) in the same load, it will become unbalanced. The machine can sometimes self correct that, but I usually have to manually correct it. Solution: don't mix sheets and towels in the same load. I love the fact that I can wash any size load, it's extremely easy to use (spend 10 min. reading the user manual and you're good!) and energy efficient (uses MUCH less water than my old machine!). I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it.

Is there an alternate option to permanent press?

I noticed this washer does not have a permanent press option. Is Pure Color similar?
Use the Cotton/Normal cycle in place of Permanent Press. I use this cycle for 90% of my loads.

have other people reported pulls and tears

I get pulls and tears in my washer at times especially with towels cant find any sharp edges or barbs in the machine
I have never experienced pulls or tears in this machine. It rated very high on Consumer Reports' for gentleness.

No automatic bleach dispenser or soak cycle? How does the washer accommodate this?

The machine does have an automatic bleach dispenser for regular chlorine bleach. If you're using bleach for colors, like Clorox 2, you just add that to your detergent dispenser along with the detergent.

Can more water be added to a cycle?

if I wanted to add more water, is there an option and if I want a long soak can I start the cycle, hit pause and let it sit or will the water drain.
I don't think you can add more water...but I believe there is an option to have the items soak for a longer period of time. If a load becomes unbalanced, the machine will automatically try and correct it by adding more water and spinning/moving the items to bring it into balance.
