I believe this is a good start up laptop for your student who just needs basic functionality in a laptop. It has a simple design and a clear display

What's great about it: Extremely easy to set up
What's not so great: On few occasions, it went off my home network too
I bought it because I just have a few rooms in my house where I don't receive Wi-fi signals and the range extender has been amazing! I have signals in every room now.
The most interesting thing about it is that it takes less than 5 mins to setup and anyone can set it up.

Light is blinking red and I was thinking it usually blinks blue? I have reset and unplugged

You need to move the range extender to a room closer to your main router. In my case, it was having some interference in the signal received from my router.
