I returned the item because of where the ball was located. I didn't realize that the placement really does make a difference. My hand was used to a center ball so switching to the thumb was totally foreign. But while I was trying to make it work for me, I noticed that the cursor was not moving smoothly and would "stick" until I kept moving the ball. That is what happened to my old trackball mouse that was probably 10 years old and finally wasn't working anymore. This one I just pulled out of the package. That is why I gave it a one star.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

do you have a left handed mouse?

You will need to get a center ball if you use your left hand. I don't believe Best Buy carries a center ball version. I had to go to Office Depot for the one I got.
