Ok noise canceling but constant hiss

I would expect that for the price, the quality of sound be better. When nice cancelation is on, there is constant hissing sound produced by the phones. When listening to music, it is not noticeable, but if you planning on taking a nap on a plane without any sound feed, you will need to get used to the hiss.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

How well do they block out the noise of a riding lawn mower?

by about 50% without music on, but if you feed some music to it, then I would say close to 70-80%
