I bought this as a companion to my new AppleTV, but after researching I found that I didn't need this at all. I did however at first set it up so that it would shut off my TV and receiver when i put the appleTV to sleep, but it turns out that if you set up the AppleTV remote properly you can control your other devices without the need of this SideClick. I still think it is a good product and if I need to control other devices other than my TV, Receiver and or Blu-Ray player I would definitely recommend getting this. it is easy to program and works well once you go through the initial process.

I would recommend this to a friend!

I originally bought AmazonTV so that I could cut my cable and ended up using Playstation Vue for most of my channel watching. At the time AmazonTV was the way to go, but after hearing that AppleTV now had the app I decided to buy the AppleTV instead. The main reason was that when I switched to the Amazon TV I also had to buy a Harmony hub and remote since everything works with bluetooth on that device. AppleTV gave me the best of both worlds. It has bluetooth and IR capabilities and I am able to use only the Apple TV remote to control all my devices such as TV, Blue-ray player and receiver with this one remote. Granted it took a little bit of time to figure it all out, but I did get it all working and I find the AppleTV to be a bit more responsive then the AmazonTV. I also have less buffering issues with the AppleTV than with the AmazonTV.

I would recommend this to a friend!

After having this receiver for about a month now I can definitely say it was a great purchase. It has plenty of power and sounds great with my speakers. Easy set up with very easy instructions. I love the plug in speaker calibrator that it comes with. It even made it easier to set up properly. Sounds way better than the Onkyo I had before.

Purchased this remote when I bought an Amazon fire TV. I needed a remote that would work with bluetooth and still control my TV and receiver that work with IR. Very happy with the product. The set-up can be a little complicated since you need to download the app onto your phone first to make the initial connection, but once that's done it works great.

I hooked up a Samsung sound bar through the digital optical plug (the little square kind) from my sound bar to my receiver. I have all the HDMI's in and one out to the TV. How do I get sound to work?

If you go into settings you should be able to change the audio to output through optical.

Can this unit convert composite video from a video tape player to the HDMI output? My projector would require this.

This unit has HDMI as it's output connection. The input connections are HDMI, Composite and Component. So if you have a player that has composite connections just connect to those and it will output through the HDMI output.

Is the remote RF

No it is IR. But I use it with a Harmony hub so basically all RF or Bluetooth.

Will the remote control apps (Netflix/Amazon) on Samsung smart tv?

If you set it up through the harmony app it should be able to work just like your original TV remote. You might have to assign different buttons for each faction that you want.

can this remote replace a logitech harmony 650?

Yes it can, but the real reason to use this instead of the 650 is if you want to use bluetooth or the IR blasters.

Harmony Smart Control RF question

Can it communicate RF to the hub then IR to the devices? How does the IR blaster connect to the hub? Can you get IR emitters to attach to the front of each device you want to control so you can keep everything centralized in a rack? If so how do they connect to the hub and where do you buy them? Can I see a drawing of the connections points?

Best Answer

Yes this device will control both bluetooth and IR devices. The product comes with one IR blaster that you can put anywhere so that you have the ability to conceal your devices. I personally found that I didn't need the IR blaster since everything is in an open cabinet, but my son purchased one also and he uses two IR blasters. I believe you can purchase extra blasters right here at Best Buy. The IR blasters connect directly to the back of the hub and the hub accommodates 2 blasters.

CAN YOU USE THE HARMONY SMART CONTROL WITH MY LAPTOP?

Yes you can use it with your laptop if it has bluetooth.
