I bought this Roku stick last month, only as a wanted item. In a few short days, it turned into a much-needed purchase. It's super-easy to set up (even by a novice) and it has working flawlessly since purchase. It pairs with my wireless network, even in the basement area of my house, without any streaming problems. Once configured, the USB plug-in can be transferred to any tv in the house in a matter of minutes, without additional setup. I don't have any "smart" devices, just standard HDTV's. Roku's website offers clarity with any desired support, along with offering many free streaming channels. I have not experienced any problems in connecting to any of my paid streaming-subscription sites. Best if all, I no longer have to deal for video rentals and return issues. Everything can be watched anytime/anywhere, 24/7. It's necessary to have a nearby computer and wireless network at hand for the initial setup. This avoids any install delays.
I would recommend this to a friend!

After having purchased other so-called "name brand routers", at only a few dollars less, I now consider them as 1-year disposables. While at BestBuy, I decided to spend a few extra bucks for a NetGear. I was enticed by the fact that a modem was also on board, eliminating another purchase. I've had the N600 for 2 months and the DSL speeds are impressive. Setup was quick and easy. Downloads/uploads are fast and error-free. I only had to re-boot the router once (during a net configuration) and I think that was an independent device problem. Amongst it's impressive usage versatility, router security is great and the software download for the router is awesome. It includes a tool kit with problem resolvers and 24/7 online help/support options. Satisfaction with NetGear website security is comparable. As suggested by the mfg., I keep the router on all of the time and so far I haven't had any problems. Other devices immediately recognize its presence for easy wireless configuration. I'm hoping that its superb function will continue for many upcoming years and would definitely recommend its purchase, based upon quality and performance, thus far.

Does it have a monthly fee

No fees! Initial setup will ask for a credit card, but this is for only for Roku web purchases. If you don't want the card info left on their website, just go to the site (via computer) after device setup and delete card info. This has no effect on future Roku device usage.

Is the Roku Stick transportable?

Can my 13 yr old daughter take her Roku Stick to a friends house that has router access on a sleep over to watch Netflix on my account? Does she have to link with their router?
Yes. However, if the network is password protected, it will only connect using a router's specific security requirements for a connection. This doesn't apply to "public" WiFi non-secure nets (motels, etc.).

My son doesn't have Internet or wifi or cable but his TV has an HDMI can he use one of the RoKu's?

All newer TV's usually come with an HDMI port. However, ANY device used for "streaming" must have internet access for usage, either through a cable service or other internet provider.

Will it work on a password protected internet?

Chomcast stopped working after my wi-if was secured again! Hoping this will work with a secure wireless connection!
My NetGear wireless net is password protected for any connected device. I've never had any connection problems and you shouldn't either. Bear in mind, that any device connecting to a secure network, has to initially be configured with "your" router password. This is one of the setup steps with the Roku stick.

Can tv without hmdi port work any other way?

My tv does not have hdmi port. Can I connect my purple steaming stick to my dvd player hdmi port then to my tv??
I would go to Best Buy and consider a Roku Player. The kit comes with cable hookups for HDMI compatibility issues. A sales rep should be able to help you with any questions. You may also want to check out your TV and DVD player manuals and/or mfg. websites for an answer.

Does Roku collect metadata/viewing habits as Google does with Chromecast?

Does Roku collect metadata/viewing habits as Google does with Chromecast? More specifically, say I go to the SCI-FI channel, I don't mind them mining my viewing habits; but I have a problem with a third party "nosing in", like google snooping on all your traffic on the "chromecast"
Roku gives the choice option, during initial account setup. My paid-streaming accounts offer the same option at device configuration and you should make sure that your accounts do also. The issue should be addressed under "security options" for each vendor. Obviously, Roku has no control over other subscription providers' activity.

Actiontec - N300 Router with ADSL2+ Broadband DSL Modem - Black
This modem and router combo features a full-rate ADSL 2/2+ modem, a 4-port Ethernet switch and a dual-antenna wireless-N router in one unit for a wide range of high-speed connection options.

4 Ethernet ports?

Hi. I know there's 4 ports. I connected my laptop to the first port. Does that mean I have to connect another computer to the 2nd port. Or do we share port 1?
Unless you set up a private wireless network for all devices, any "hardwired" devices (cable to device use) have to be connected to additional router ports.

Is this router/modem compatible with Windstream broadband?

A friend of mine has Windstream in a nearby community. He has no problems with compatibility. The technology of this router (and impressive online help) should help to resolve any possible issues.
