What's great about it: Easy to set up, works great!
I have always used NetGear products both for business and for personal use. It was no surprise to me that this router was perfect. Easy to set up, easy to maintain, and great signal strength.
I personally take advantage of both 2.4 and 5 Ghz speeds. For example, all of my devices that run online games and/or stream video I connect to the 5GHz connection. Anything else that doesn't need as much speed as possible, I connect to the 2.4GHz and it's all perfect!
I would most definitely recommend this router to both new, intermediate, and experienced users!

what do i need for signal strenght
need a reepeater, poor signal
If your signal is weak with the N750, you're right... You likely need to go back to best buy and purchase a WiFi range extender. They are decently priced, and you can get one made by NetGear.
Just follow the instructions carefully while setting it up, sometimes linking the signals can be tricky.

Need something to set up internet on my direct tv service
The N750 will be a good choice. But satellite internet is sometimes a little different than cable/fiber optic. In other words, after you hook up the N750 and your connection speed plummets... It may not be the router.
Call DirectTV to verify that you have the proper equipment in your house to begin with before buying any routers. Once they confirm that you are already properly configured, then you should be able to purchase the N750 and set it up with no problem.
Otherwise, take the advice of DirectTV as far as what to purchase.

VPN compatible?
I have to use a vpn connection for my work computer. Is this router compatible?

Yes, it will work. When you connect to VPN, most of the time the IP address that you are connecting WITH doesn't matter. However, what does matter is the IP address you are connecting TO and the USER/PASS you use to connect to it.
Therefore, yes, this router should work fine for your VPN connection to your work computer/network.

Verizon Fios Compatible?
I want to replace my outdated Verizon Fios router. Can I replace it with this router?
Okay so this is tricky. You can, but you must first call Verizon and tell them to switch your current WiFi router into just a modem. Right now, your wireless router is handing out IP addresses to all devices on your network, if you hook another router up within that network, you'll create an IP loop (conflicting IP's) and it will mess everything up.
Once Verizon has turn off the DHCP/WIRELESS transmissions from their router, then unhook all connections from it and plug them into the N750.
So what it should look like is:
1) Cable wire running from wall to your Fios Router
2) Ethernet Cable running from your Fios Router to your N750
3) Any other hard connections running into the 1-4 Ethernet ports on your N750
4) Setup your N750 wireless router, then connect all devices to it.
Once Verizon has turn off the DHCP/WIRELESS transmissions from their router, then unhook all connections from it and plug them into the N750.
So what it should look like is:

What kind of modes are there.. if there are any.. and what are they for? (Netgear N600 wireless dual band router) Model: WNDR3400... want long range

You can take advantage of the Dual band feature of the router. Connect all of your gaming devices and/or those that stream video to the 5GHz band while anything that just surfs the internet (or doesn't require an amazing connection), put on the 2.4GHz connection.
It is easy to set both bands up, but you may have to go through the initial setup process again.
Also, if SIGNAL STRENGTH is your main problem, go back to best buy and purchase (or ask a representative) about a WiFi Range Extender. Netgear also offers those, and they work great. However, be sure to follow the setup instructions closely because sometimes it can be a pain.
