What's great about it: Enough speed & power to run web & MS Office
What's not so great: Not very expandable
When my kid's 8 year old PC finally kicked it beyond repair, we needed a PC fast for homework's sake. She needed fast web access and MS Office. I was reluctant to look at this machine because it came with Win8. But the price was so good that I couldn't really say no; weighing my immediate need for a box and the fact that Win8 wasn't going away.
It does exactly what it needs to do. It runs pretty flawlessly and handles Win8, Chrome, Office2013 just fine. My kids don't game so I can't speak to amy high end video capabilities. Secret bonus: it has wifi built in. I saw that listed no where, including the HP site but when I was doing first boot and setup, it pulled up the surrounding networks; I was very pleasantly surprised.
Pro: Quiet, decent speed, wifi included, low cost
Con: 4GB RAM (base), cheap mouse & keyboard, limited expandability, LOTS of Bloatware preinstalled by HP.
This product is... Perfect for Business, Inputs which I need, quiet, A nice compact size, Attractive design, easy to set up
About me... Budget Conscious, Parent with kids, Technology guru, Social media enthusiast, Comfortable with technology
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is it possible to order this computer with windows 7 operating system?

No. It comes with 8 and has an 8 recovery partition. You would have to wipe 100% and install your own 7.

Can this computer be hooked up to a touch screen monitor?

If so, would it require additional hardware/software? Would any touch screen work?
I don't see why not but it completely depends on the touchscreen monitor you are using. Check the monitor specs first. But this box comes with a full version of Win8 so it should support touch screens.

Is this computer good for gaming

I wouldn't. It's a middling AMD processor and shared video.

whats the difference in hard drive size between 500GB and 1TB?

I was wondering how much more space a 1TB has compared to 500GB? I'm not good at computors but I like the reviews of the 1TBs more so I guess that would make it better than 500GB. I'm thinking of buying the 6GB memory-1TB hard drive in the HP Pavilion Slimline but need to know more about it. I also need to know where the opening for the CD & DVD drives are? Are they on top or are they hidden in front sideways?
The 1TB drive is twice the capacity of the 500GB drive (more or less;the manufacturers fudge the math). Depending on the sales at any given time, it may be cheaper to buy a computer with lower hard drive space and RAM and upgrade those yourself, sell off the components it came with and have what you want for less than from the manufacturer. But if you're not comfortable with that, then just pay upfront. I believe the next unit up also has a faster CPU so that is definitely worth it.

The DVD drive is in the front behind a swing out door and is installed vertically. The door is spring loaded and opens/closes with the tray.
