yes, it is backward compatible. 2.5GHz and 5GHz will work with both USB 2.0 and 3.0.
2.0 can only get a max speed of 480 MBps, you'll have to use 3.0 if you want to take full advantage of the speed of this adapter

yes, if your internal WiFi card is G or N.

802.11n gets 450Mbps and 802.11ac can get to 1300Mbps. it will increase the speed of your WiFi connection if you have a router and ISP that can support that speed.
