Western Digital used to be known for producing disk drive controllers.. Now it makes very stable and fast hard drives. A marriage made in heaven. Nothing against Seagate. Seagate has been making hard drives long before Western Digital became a company and their hard disks are also reliable. I choose WD because of the price for a 3 TB hard disk vs others.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is this a "green" drive?

I'm hearing that "green" drives are not the best choice for your boot (main) drive due to their slower performance.
I have a green drive in my iMAC. It's a 1.5 TB drive and so far I haven't had any problems. I've see red, white, and green drives with basically the same specifications. Just be sure it's a 7200 rpm drive and not 5400.

Does this come with windows

NO. Windows is a copyrighted and protected software system that comes on CD's or DVD's. I can think of no hard disk that comes with Windows pre-installed unless it's a new PC with Windows.

Is this compatible with Windows 8?

I'm thinking of adding another HD to my PC, but i wanna know if this will work on Windows 8.
Windows has nothing to do with the size of your hard disk being compatible with your computer. It's your Computer's BIOS that determines the maximum size of hard disk it can use. Therefore I personally see no reason why you couldn't install the drive. HOWEVER, if you want to save your data, be sure to backup first. I would also personally wait for Windows 10 due out later this year.

Can I use this hard drive in my 24" iMac?

Can I use this hard drive in my 24" iMac?
The best answer I can give you on this since the iMAC has several models and they support various types of hard drives. The best solutionn for you would be to call Apple Support or visit the iMAC forum on the Apple website.

"Desktop"? OK in a external dock, thru USB? Can reformat to format exFAT?

There are problems involved with installing a drive that may be larger than the system BIOS. Western Digital and Seagate should have instructions and drivers for your PC to recognize the drive as a 3 TB drive. With drives becoming larger (in 1983 a 10MB drive cost hundreds of dollars) now, only the latest PCs will be able to squeeze every drop of space out of those large drives. The rest of us will have to either switch the BIOS if possible or buy a new system. As for an external dock, it should work, however it's quite possible without a driver, the drive will not format to 3 TB. The documentation that came with the drive should explain drive formatting.
Concerning the USB, it's the same as an external drive in a dock.

Connection problems!

This 3TB hard drive seems to have connection issues. Just walking by the unit causes it to disconnect and become unreliable. Short of super glue, is there a better fix? What is the warranty on this unit?
Thanks
Check the cables that connect the drive to the motherboard. It sounds like a classic case of a loose connection. And while you have the cover off your PC, double check all connections and if possible, clean out the dust on your fans and case interior. Hope this helps. If not, I would recommend returning the drive and getting a refund OR better yet, get another drive.
