The Surface Pro 3 hardware is beautiful. Feels good to hold bit not to screen size is right for a larger tablet. Windows 10 is easy to use. A couple drawbacks: the kickstand isn't always convenient if you want to use the surface like a laptop in your lap. Also, the keyboard is not included. Go for the newer keyboard for the Surface Pro 4 (compatible with the 3). Much better typing experience and bigger/smoother touchpad.

Purchased on clearance for $6.99. Perfect size for my Lenovo Yoga 2 13. Not larger than it needs to be. Also tested in store with the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 and it should fit just fine. It does have "Samsung" embossed on the inside, but it's not visible when closed.

Can I connect an external CD/DVD drive to the Surface
There is one full-sized USB port on the tablet. You can connect whatever you want to it. If the external drive requires extra power or two USB ports, you may need a powered USB hub.
