What's great about it: accurate step count, easy to read/use phone app, website, long-life battery
What's not so great: the data doesn't sync correctly, unattractive design
I've had my basis for a month now and all-in-all, I'm still on the fence about this product. It really does motivate me to reach my goals everyday and I love the heart rate monitor feature. My biggest complaint is that while the band itself does seem to be accurate, the website and phone app data do not report that data correctly. For instance, my band will tell me I've taken 12,000 steps one day, while the website/app may say 7,000 steps. This not only effects whether or not I make my step "goal" that day, but more importantly it throws off the data so that when I look back through my reports to start to see patterns/analyze my results it isn't accurate. Part of the reason I was so excited about the Basis product was that it would record my activities everyday automatically for me. Now apparently, if I want to have the accurate data, I need to be tracking the data by hand which is exceedingly frustrating. The band was definitely not cheap, and to me this is a huge issue.
I have been in contact with Basis over the past several weeks over this matter, and this is part of the response I've received:
"…even though your activity levels were enough to meet the goal, there were failed uploads that caused the habits to fail due to the way the data parsed when it uploaded.
This is a known bug we're looking into. I don't have an ETA on when a fix will be deployed, but it's on the radar."
Like I said, very very frustrating.
It's hard to say if I would recommend this product. It is so close to being something great. If all you're looking for is motivation, they have cheaper products that can achieve that. If you want a more sophisticated product that helps you analyze data over time this could be it, if they can fix the "bugs."
This product has... Useful features, Quick reading, great app and website
About me... workout enthusiast

Which select Android Phones?

I recently purchased a health tracker that stated select Android phones. I happened to have the phone (DNA) that does NOT work with it. I would like to make sure that it will work before I spend this amount again.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII and it works with my phone. I'm sure the newer Galaxys also work with the Basis.

Does it track steps and calories burned accurately for ellipticals?

I have a Precor AMT (commercial machine) and I have a fitbit. My fitbit only seems to count every other step. I don't see these fitness trackers ever say anything in their descriptions about ellipticals. Please advise. Thanks!
The Basis does indeed track elliptical "steps" correctly. From what I've noticed, it's running that doesn't seem to be counted correctly.
