This laptop is good looking and thin. The screen is great, very clear and bright. It is pretty quick right out of the box, but after replacing the hard drive with a SSD I was blown away by the speed. The employee said I couldn't swap out the hard drive - something about not being able to activate Windows on the new drive - but he was wrong. A previous review said the only SSD brand you can use for this laptop is a Samsung. This is also incorrect - I used a Crucial SSD and suspect any reputable brand can be used. The only negatives with this laptop are the weight (a little heavier than I thought it would be), and uneven keyboard backlighting (for instance, the left SHIFT key shows HIFT). Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and make this laptop a good buy, especially if you wait until it goes on sale - it's occasionally marked down by $100.

Asus Q551LN-BBI706 ssd upgrade

I have read that this laptop will only accept Samsung SSDs. Is this true?
I am using a Crucial SSD with this laptop and had absolutely zero problem with the swap. I also read the review about only using Samsung SSDs, and I don't know where that misinformation came from. The employee at Best Buy told me I couldn't swap out the HDD at all, but I didn't believe him and sure enough he was wrong.
