What's great about it: on data cable as external drive is quick and works fine
What's not so great: no connect thru internet for note 2
So get it out of box firmware 3 updates behind, wont auto update have to do manual dl on pc for firmware files then reboot and unplug and replug and etc etc for each update. Will not connect to internet at all. Will not allow my note 2 to connect to internet through it. The app for browsing files is clunky and slow and has no option for thumbnails. Streaming to phone or tab works fine on 780p vidoes or less if you have a device newer than note 2 or an app with the newest codecs...I cant find one that works for some stuff....1080p video seriously slow and choppy bad sync etc etc... As plug in external drive works great...as personal cloud terrible....

Does this drive operate as a bluetooth type of device?
I have an iPad4 w/o 4g capability. Can I access content on this drive w/o having wi-fi or internet connection? In other words, can you access your files through a bluetooth connection?
No blutooth compatability but you dont have to connect to internet to wifi connect devices or pcs to it

Can I use this device without being conneected to the internet?
Absolutely and its all its really good for in my experiance.....makes a decent wireless repository for media.....easy to lose stuff though app is clunky and is large hard drive lol...is like personal cloud for home

Does the device work via battery power?
How long does the battery last? I'd like to be able to use this on road trips. Will I need to have it plugged in for it to work. Where would I find a car charger?

How to access the files remotely?
One of the product description says that the files can be accessed remotely from anywhere through web browser, would like to understand how to set up? Please be detailed.

Leave it on and connected to internet....type the devices web address into desired computer should see the page come up looks just like the app but with a few more options....havent tried outside of house yet good luck

Is there a password protection?
Can you set up a password to protect the content on the hard drive? Because I will be going to college soon and many people around me could potentially gain access to it if it is not protected.

Does this device handle automatic backups?
I have a Macbook Air with wifi home network.
(1) Can this Seagate external drive be set up to do automatic scheduled backups (for example, every night at 2:00 am)?
(2) And, will it only backup files that have changed since the last backup?
(3) And, do I need to select which files, programs, photos, etc that I want backed up?
(4) And, what if I create a new file or folder on my Macbook Air? Do I then have to select it as one of the files, folders, etc that I want the Seagate to backup automatically in the future?

If its plugged into computer you may be able to set your computer to use it as backup drive and get all the functions desired mentioned above.... wirelessly though forget it.....

apps,and travel compatibility
Is this device good at storing apps from Ipad,kindle,and other devices?And is this a good device to travel with,if you want to watch a movie?
If you can find video player with proper codecs to play your videos will work for travel....mx player seems to be best out right now but still lacking....battery seems chincy though I give it 2 movies tops before recharge....wont store apps you need blustacks on pc for that....
