What's great about it: Easy to use
If you need an HDMI cable and it only has to reach a short distance. This is a great option. No issues here.

Does this player allow for connection to the internet via a browser?

Yes, but the aspect ratios for the browser does not convert well. Its like using a desktop website on your phone browser (either zoom way in or way out, difficult to navigate). It does connect to the internet with a browser, but the function is not a selling point for the product. If you are interested in having that feature, purchase something else.
