If your living room doesn't have a switch for your lights then this is your solution. The setup is easy and with the Phillips Hue color bulbs you can get the look you want.

Do you need it? No, but for those of us who like see our texts without pulling out our phone or get a text without everyone in the room knowing you got a text, it's pretty nice. If you thinking of getting one of those Garmin golf gps watches, this does the same thing but isn't such a unitasker. Works great with Siri, just lift your wrist and speak a text, it translates really well. Great for workouts too.
It's not a necessity, but once you have it, you'll really appreciate what it can do for you.

I have the 1st generation trackpad, and I love it. This one is better because it has a built-in battery that recharges with the lightning cable and the battery lasts longer than the AA's I use in my old one. Also has the touch sensitivity which I haven't used yet but will be nice if i have the chance.

These thing are great! This is the third one in my house. I have two of the 650 model and love them. This unit uses your WiFi which is cool. The remote works well for guests, but using the app on your phone gives you all the options and was easy to set up. Harmony remotes cost more than other universals for a reason. Anything else is a waste of money.

Can this projector produce a quality 80" picture at 14' throw distance?
It will be much larger than 80". I am getting a 94" picture at 10' 6". You can adjust the picture size with the zoom a little bit, but you won't get it down to 80" at 14'.
