Setup was pretty much a plug and go. I connected my laptop directly to the modem and was up and running within a few minutes. I could be sitting next to my old router and not be able to connect my laptop to the wi-fi but sitting in the same location i get excellent speed and coverage. I set my son up on his own login for his ps3 and have not had any problems yet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

can I set up this router without using a pc?

I am planning to get the router for my parents to replace an existing 10+ year old router (still works but after the house remodeling it no longer reach certain part of the house.) Parents only have their cell phone and an Ipad (older model.) Can I install the router without a pc/laptop?

Want to get rid of cable,will this work with a tablet? And this is all I need.

you will still need internet access. this just allows you to connect wirelessly to the network

Is this a smart router? The kind where I can change settings/password from app on my cell?

yes there is an app you can load to your smartphone to access your router from anywhere
