I was under the impression that I could use this instead of paying the monthly additional Bright-House modem charge. This unit is not compatible with Bright-House on the bundled package of phone-cable-internet service.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought it to stop paying for the modem from Brighthouse. The sales person told me it would work and it was for my land line also. I asked him where I would plug the cord into the unit for my phone and he show it to me on the picture of the box. Well the place the salesman showed me was for the power for the unit. I still have to pay Bright-house for their modem. Best-buy does not carry a modem/ router that will do everything so I can stop paying for the added modem from Bright-house on my bill. There are places that do sell a modem/ router to replace the modem from Bright-house for saving money on the monthly bill.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
