I connect one end of the cable to my laptop and the other to the TV
Nothing happens. Am I supposed to change a setting either on the PC or on the TV to show the PC on the HDTV? I have a channel (on my Sony 47") dedicated to PC. Do I use that or an HDMI channel. HDMI 1 is for the TV; HDMI 2 is for the CD/DVD? The PC is an HP laptop Windows 7. I have purchased the Rocketfish RF-G1168 HDMI High Speed Cable to 15.0 Gbps (9 feet). Thanks for your assistance.
If you plug an HDMI cable with a signal into your TV, it "knows" there is an HDMI signal present, but it doesn't "know" (or "care") what the source of that signal is. So, on your TV you would select the HDMI jack (HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, etc.) that you plugged into.
Likely you will have to change a setting on your PC to tell it that you want to use an external monitor. You might also have to specify that you want the signal to go to the HDMI jack. (I use MACs more than PCs, so I don't know enough to be more specific.)
