Streams 1080p, better than cables 1080i. Remote is rf not line of sight, and has a mini plug jack that delivers high quality sound to earbuds through your wifi, although I experience dropouts. It is a gaming remote that can control games much like the wii remote and has 4 buttons to take you directly to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and rdio. Lots of other channels but not standard Hulu! Kinda annoyed there. Great little unit and an excellent performer. You may end up paying more for internet service in the future if you have Comcast with any streaming player since they have a 250Gb usage cap that is presently unenforced, except in test markets. Netflix streams HD at 2.7Gbs/hr! Others like Hulu at 700Mbs/s for HD stream at slower rates. You can easily exceed Comcasts cap and they may apply wireless phone company like fees in the future, such as $10 for every 50Gb package you use over their cap. They refuse to supply internet service alone. So check with your internet service provider first. It may get very expensive! The Roku on a secret screen lets you pick a maximum usage rate but it also reduces quality. Netflix will also allow you to reduce data usage but you drop out of HD. Great unit if you have Verizon. Everyone else, most will be lucky, but not me. A pointer, Comcast's customer service reps outright lied to me about this issue to upgrade my service, and cost. We did finally reach an agreement, but not with the service reps, I had to go higher. We fought for weeks. Don't believe what you don't have in writing. The Roku 3's very good and easy to use, maybe just a little ahead of it's time.

Can I stream a movie from a DVD in my computer to the TV with my Roku 3? I would like to avoid having a DVD player.
I am trying to find out if I play a movie on my computer if I can stream that to the TV through the Roku 3 and not have to have any wires to the TV

can one use only the Roku plus the TV (no phone, no DVD, etc.?
You only need an internet connection and an HDMI port on the tv.

I am thinking about purchasing this product to replace my cable but I occasionally watch horse shows via webcasts and would like to do that with this device.

Would Roku 3 be useable with no internet, to stream from my laptop/Android phone using a Wireless Router?
Would Roku 3 be useable at my cottage to stream/mirror my laptop with Windows 8.1 (and or my Android Phone) to my TV? There is no internet access just a Wireless Router.
Nope. As far a I can tell it uses preprogrammed channels and only uses the internet to connect to these channels. Have yet to find a way to add any more.

separate roku 3 streaming player for bedroom...
i am going to get a roku 3 for my main hdtv in my living room....do i need to get a separate roku 3 for my bedroom?...if i do need to get a separate one can i use one account for both or do i need separate accounts?....
Unless you are willing to physically move the Roku and plug and unplug it you're going to need 2 units. The remotes mate with their own units so I can't see a problem with interference even though they're rf not ir, but you will need to have access to your wifi for the headphones to work. You have one account and can add or remove as many devices as you wish. In fact removing a device can been done so easily through the remote that a warning is given to make sure thats what you want to do.

what is the difference between hulu and hulu plus besides the subscription?
i noticed that the roku 3 has the hulu plus...what is the difference between hulu and hulu plus???..are both offered on the roku 3?....does the hulu plus have everything that the regular hulu has and more???....is it worth getting the plus???????
With the Roku 3 the difference is that you can only get the $7.99mo Hulu Plus and not the free Hulu, even though this annoys the heck out of me.

Was wondering if u can pick Irish or english channels
Roku says that there are 1500+ channels. I've yet to find any but the hundred or so preprogrammed into the box. You can search across top channels but there's really only about 6, again preprogrammed. I called them to see how I can add internet channels not already on unit but was told that that 1500+ figure included all regions, not just mine. I don't know if they have a region code system setup like dvd's do or if I have yet to find the holy grail that would allow me to receive such channels ( I want standard Hulu) but it doesn't look promising. But hey, I buy from Best Buy because I know that they'll treat me right and let me return something I'm not happy with, so you may as well give it a shot.
