What's great about it: Network through router
What's not so great: Not easy to setup and transfer files
First one I purchased crashed after 2 days. Returned defective drive to Best Buy and WAS NOT Offered any incentive because the drive was defective... a bummer. Drive has VERY SLOW transferring speed of files from my laptop computer by way of coaxial cable as suggested by Seagate instructions. Also transfers files slow wirelessly. Not easy to setup and transfer files. Once a individual profile is setup and did not want... could not delete profile... If transfer stopped, had to start over... a bummer... I asked and Best Buy would not transfer data from several older drives from crashed computers to the new Seagate drive...
This product has... Included software is not useful, Large capacity/good size, Slow, not reliable, crashes easy, poor software
About me... Budget Conscious, Technology guru, Work with large multimedia files, have many gigs of data from older hdd
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Has a USB port, easy setup, high speed
What's not so great: Needs more coaxal cable ports
Fairly easy setup, purchsed because lost COX signal sever times a day. did not solve problem... had to also purchase a modem, solved problem so far... NO THANKS to COX... Has a USB port, easy setup, also connected to my SHARP Smart TV with no problem, high speed signals and powerful through my two story house and outside.
This product has... Fast connection, Dual band, Reliable connection, connect to sharp 3d smart hdtv

What's great about it: Wireless, document feeder and touch screen
What's not so great: Will not scan both sides using document feeder... My Epson scanner in my office at work would scan both sides
Good Mid Level Ink Jet All in One Printer has FAX capabilities, which I have not used... FAXING a document is past it's prime... outdated and unsecure. I would rather scan the document and Email to a personal address, I LOVE the Wireless capabilities, document feeder and touch screen... so easy to accomplish what you want to do through the touch screen. The system will not scan both sides using document feeder... a bummer... My Epson scanner in my office at work would scan both sides using document feeder. Never tried printing a photo on photo grade paper... I has a separate tray for the photo grade paper... But printing photos is SO OUTDATED with the invention of DIGITAL CAMERAS, viewing photos on a computer and digital photo frames have printed photos SO OUTDATED. The Ink Jet Printer Cartilages are very small.... at least each color is separate and little waste of ink when a color is depleted... Would much rather have purchased a Laser All in One Printer, but price of consumables are a tad higher than ink jet...
About me... Demand high print quality, Frequent user, Budget Conscious, like printer with document feeder, like printing and scanning on both sides

What's great about it: 17" Touch Screen, 1 TB Hard Disk Drive, but would like it to have been 2 TB
What's not so great: Only 8 gb RAM, Key pad flimsy.
Great Midlevel Laptop computer to replace my old 2005 Gateway Desktop. I like the 17" Touch Screen, but it seems to get dirty easy... being touch screen, I don't use the feature too often. I don't like using the touch pad also, so I have a Wireless Bluetooth Logitech Mouse and Keyboard I was using on my old crashed desktop. I might hook up my 23" monitor and use the wireless keyboard... Use the laptop at my desk as a semi-desktop< The 1 TB HDD Only started to fill up fast, I also purchased a 4 TB Networked HDD. The 8 gb RAM is skimpy and should be minimum of 16 gb, Key pad is flimsy, would like to have a blue lighted keyboard, for when I am sitting in my recliner at night with the laptop sitting on my lap desk. Wish HP had not discontinued the lighted HP Laptop cover logo... Bring it back in light blue... I know there is a way in BIOS to keep the Num Lock activated at startup... currently have to push Num Lock to use the numbers keypad... Like to have more memory card size features...
This product is... Big screen size, poor sound quality, easy to set up, touch screen stays dirty

Do I need to throw away memory to upgrade from 8 to 16 GB ?

Many system require some or all existing memory to to tossed into the waste can to make room for the upgrade. Other have space saved for only for the upgrade amount needed. i.e. buy 8 gig and stick it in.
Yes, there are no spare memory slots... It would look like computer manufactures would integrate extra slots... you have to toss your 8 GB to upgrade to more memory...
