I've bought this for myself almost a year ago. It's simple, it works well and we use it everyday on our TV for Netflix or Pandora. The selection of supported apps grows all the time.
Sometimes, I wished there was more of an TV interface like Apple TV or Roku but then I realize how simple and easy to use Chromecast is... and that's what makes it great.
Also... for the price (especially when it's almost always on sale during various holiday season), you can't beat the value you get out of this.
So for any android user... this is a no-brainer accessory. One of my uncles just switched from iPhone to Android over Christmas... and guess what, Chromecast was the first gift I gave him!!!! :)
I would recommend this to a friend!

VGA or HDMI port?

My TV does not have a USB port, but is HD and has VGA and HDMI ports (which we use to play Netflicks through a laptop). Can I use Chromecast if I get a converter cable, eg. USB-to-HDMI?
Chromecast only needs an HDMI port and a power source. Your power source can be either your USB port (which you don't have) or plugging it directly into a power outlet.

So you should be fine.

HDMI?

I don't understand . . . does this device plug into a HDMI port on the TV or some other port (such as USB)? Seems like the product specs would address such a fundamental question!
This device plugs into your TV's HDMI port. It needs a power source though... so the Chromecast can be powered by either:
- plugging in the supplied cable to a power outlet
- plugging in the USB powered cable to your TV's USB port
