What is the speed of the drive in RPM?
My primary use for this drive is to backup HD video files. Is the drive speed 7200RPM?
Check your model number online with Western Digital support services. You need the hard drive that is 7200 rpm if possible to transfer large HD video files but 5400 rpm will work. The transfer or backup will just take longer with the slower drive.

Will WD My Book for Mac 3TB work with Mac Yosemite OS?
You can ask your question on Google giving your apple operating system and the hard drives that are compatible. Most IT Professionals find answers through Google search or other knowledge sites. Apple won't tell you because they want you to purchase their more expensive products.

Backing up data
Can I back up the files on this hard drive to a cloud service? Thanks
I think you should be able to do the backup to a cloud drive if you tether the Passport Hard Drive to a desktop or laptop to do the actual transfer of data. The faster your network the more likely the transfer will work.
