I've tried a lot of the off-brands and refills, but always come to the conclusion that HP inks perform best in HP printers for professional quality prints.

What's great about it: Saves on water. No impeller to beat up clothes. Good price.
What's not so great: The sounds of the H.E. cycles took some getting used to.
Slim, modern design. Sufficient tub size, and no impeller to tangle or beat up clothes.

What's great about it: Good price and quality. Ease of operation.
What's not so great: I still see a layer of dust, but maybe my expectations are too high.
Quiet at low speed for nighttime use yet not noisy at high speed during the day. Well made by a name brand. Washable filter saves a lot of money; one reason for my purchase. I would only change the intake area to gather and filter more dust. One should vacuum and dust regularly, anyway to keep it in check. This will not rid the correct sized room of dust all by itself, and should be used for low dust maintenance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've tried refilling spent cartridges with non-HP ink and though properly done, never got results approaching the quality of HP inks.

Replacing HP cartridges is quick and easy. The XL color eliminates the hassle of buying another regular size, especially when working on several photo projects. The Vivera ink is of high quality for best results.

how many gallons of water does it use in a normal wash

I need a low water washer that is my number one priority.
It measures only the water needed for each load, meaning the detergent does not get diluted.
