The scanner is really good for scanning printed photos, but for the old negative films the software it is not user friendly. I am an IT guy, and still I could not get a decent film scan. I have seen the high end Epson scanners results, and there is a big difference, I guess you get what you paid for. For simple tasks this is a good alternative, specially if you do not want to spend almost a thousand bucks for a pro scanner
