I was able to get an incredible deal on this computer as an "Open box" item, classified in excellent condition. It arrived quickly in the original box and using the original packing materials. It was in excellent condition, and included all the original pieces. Cosmetically it was in excellent shape. Even the instruction pamphlets were included.
It had been reset to its condition leaving the factory, as was seen when I powered it up and went through the standard set up procedure for a windows pc on first start up. I encountered no difficulties at all, and had it up and running very quickly. I connected it to a 28inch, 4K, 60Hz monitor that is shared with an old tower (to the left of the monitor). The HP tower is to the right of the monitor.
In the photos I show the display using the internal graphics built into the tower. The photos don't do it justice. The display is truly breath taking. I will be using this new computer to view and sort family photos (over four thousand of them). I will also do light editing of these photos, where needed.
The CPU on this computer is much faster and more powerful than that on my old machine (an 8th gen i5). I am able to my photo work and other home tasks (shopping, light research, videos, movies, etc.) easily and quickly.
I did a number of upgrades on my old tower. I also have built a modestly powered pc that I use to do more advanced photo editing, and light gaming. So it was not long before I opened up this HP to see what it looked like and what upgrades might be possible. In one photo you see what the full interior looks like, as well as two close ups. The interior is very clean and simple - an indication of good engineering. Cable management is excellent. The shroud over the cpu and storage drive guide the warm air out of the tower. The fan used to drive the air is extremely quiet. It is almost inaudible.
The storage drive is under the shroud, and is cooled by the air moving through the shroud. The storage drive is fast, doing over 6000MB/s both read and write. It has a 1TB capacity. There are no other available m.2 NVMe on the motherboard.
However, as several other reviewers have pointed out, there are two SATA ports for data as well as one power SATA port on the motherboard. I obtained a cable to plug into the power connector and another cable to split the power to two connectors to power two 2.5inch SSDs. I obtained two data SATA cables to connect to the two SSDs.
I obtained a metal cage to house the two SSDs. I stuck the metal cage to the side of the power supply, as seen in the photo showing my upgrades. Both SSDs work, and yield speeds of over 500MB/s. They run cool, and draw very little power.

Another upgrade I made was to the memory. The pc comes with one stick of 16GB DDR5 ram. I added a second 16GB stick of DDR5 ram. The first try didn't work, and was rejected by the BIOS of the pc. My second try, using Crucial ram was successful. I suspect the initial ram was simply not recognized by the BIOS of this machine.
I went into the BIOS and found that it is a very simple and barebones system. There is very little that is adjustable in it. I know that there is a fan curve in it to escalate the speed of the cooling fan, because I can hear the fan speed up as the cpu gets hotter. But there is no way the user can adjust that fan curve. I believe the BIOS was kept simple and limited to protect the typical user this pc was designed for.
A third upgrade I made was to install a low power graphics card, to permit simple video editing and modest game play. I chose the RTX 3050 with 6GB GDDR6 video ram, in the version with a peak power draw of 70W. This card draws all its power from the pcie slot. An added benefit of this card is that its two fans help improve the circulation of the air within the pc. They are fairly quiet under my ordinary operating conditions.
Not seen in the photo of my upgrades is a fourth upgrade consisting of an expansion card that adds two USB 3.0 ports to the rear of my computer. Since the pcie slot needed for this in under the graphics card, I used a ribbon connector to extend the port 50mm to the side and installed the low profile card under the cage holding my two SSDs. I use those ports for data transfer from two external hard drives (with their own external power).
I have been running my new pc with all its upgrades for over a month now with no issues. I am very happy with this pc. I recommend it highly, even with no upgrades.

I purchased this for a small desktop I recently purchased for home use. This tower has a 280W power supply, and is being used with a 28inch, 4K, 60Hz monitor. The system is used mainly for viewing and sorting family photos, shopping, viewing online videos and movies, and other assorted things. This back-up system is well matched to these needs. It is also an economical solution for this system. I recommend it highly.

I am digitizing and archiving thousands of precious family photos spanning close to 100 years. The safest, most durable, and longest lived media for storing digital media is presently the M-DISC. This particular drive can write to 100 GB M-DISC, allowing one
to conveniently write large directories in one pass. It also allows multiple copies to be made and sent to other family members. At present I have purchased two of these drives, and plan to purchase more in the near future. I recommend this particular drive most highly.

This portable DVD writer works very well. I use it primarily to safely archive photos while travelling, and for long term storage at home. Its ability to write to M-DISC provides copies that will safely last over 50 years - far greater than any other technology presently available. For such long term planning, I have purchased three of these units. There are fewer and fewer manufacturers of good drives of this type. I highly recommend this particular model.

4K, up to 120Hz display. I use my system primarily for photo editing, and occasionally
racing games (Forza Horizon 4 and 5). I tested the back-up system by doing a fast cut off of the line power using a power strip with a fast switch. Both the monitor and pc continued without even a flicker, and continued running for 10 minutes, when I powered both down. I have been using the setup for 6 months, and have had no issues. This back-up system is very economical and serves my system extremely well. I recommend it highly.

How big is the power supply in this unit? Can I add a Nvidia 1050 GPU without upgrading the Factory power supply?
The unit has an internal 180 Watt power supply. I believe you would have to replace it with a higher power supply to run such a card. I did a little research on upgrading the power supply for this machine. It is not so easy. I would recommend sticking with the built in graphics. The machine was not designed for higher end gaming.

You will have to do it after the purchase, and the system has been set up. It is very easy to do via the Windows Store (for which you must have an account). It will cost about $100.

does the motherboard come with an extra cable it I want to install another SATA compatible Drive or does it have to be purchased separately?
I opened up my computer to look at the cable situation, because I want to add an additional hard drive to the system. I found that the power cable to the DVD drive has a connector on it that will allow you to supply power to such a drive. I also saw that there is an open socket for one data sata cable to connect to this drive, but there is no cable provided to do this. You will have to buy the cable yourself (less than $10). Finally there is a single open bay available, and it will hold a 3.5" drive, and it is just below the dvd drive. So adding one additional SATA drive appears doable, and relatively straight forward.

Why is there no slot for a GPU? In the specifications for this product, in the expansion section, it states there is 1 PCI-E X1 slot, and a PCI-E x16 slot. What is in these slots, if I can't put a GPU in there? Is the description wrong?
I opened up my Lenovo, and see that both of these slots are open and available. However, be aware that the power supply for this machine is modest, and supplies a maximum of only 180 Watts. You need to carefully tally up the power already being used, and see if there is enough for the video card of your choice. Even a low end video card is going to use over 30 W. I think you are best advised to stick with the built in graphics.
