I have used WD drives for over 40 years, both internal and external, and they have never failed me. I got this drive as a second disk for my new computer. I plan to install Linux on it, and configure the machine to dual boot. I chose this particular drive for its speed - 7200rpm. I know it will work in the configuration I plan, as I have done it before. I got it at a very good price during the Black Friday sale.

I have wanted this unit for some time, and was finally able to get it at an excellent price during the Black Friday sale. It provides excellent backup for my new PC and new monitor, and their external drives. My equipment has relatively low power draw, and I get almost an hour of run time when losing power, which is more than sufficient to backup crucial files, and power everything down safely.

This monitor is my first 4K monitor, and it gives me absolutely stunning images. I am using it with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop elements., and it is well paired with them. I thought I might be overwhelmed by the size of the screen, coming from a 15" screen on a laptop - but I very quickly got accustomed to it, and find myself doing all my editing using my new monitor.

This machine is impressive. It is very well made - with a very pleasing exterior, and a very clean and well laid out interior. It provides more features at this price point than you can find elsewhere. For example - it gives two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, and a USB C port on the front! The engineering is well thought out. For example, the memory is two paired 4GB sticks, to optimize throughput. The machine is snappy and does the jobs it was designed for very well. One thing to take note of is that the machine is not designed for high end gaming, and really can't be upgraded to do so - it has a 180W interior power supply and a proprietary motherboard. But it does all the tasks characteristic of a home pc very well, and somewhat beyond. I am doing photo editing using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Elements, and they work very well. I have paired the PC with a 28" Samsung 4K monitor, and the images are stunning. For the price, you won't find a better machine anywhere.

Does the refurbished t7 work as good as a new t7?
I purchased two of these refurbished drives. After properly initializing and formatting one of them, it appears to work as well as a new drive. This was not true for the second drive - I struggled to get it to work, and then found that 7% of the sectors of the drive were bad. It now appears to be working, but I less confidence in it.

Does the external SSD come with a USB-C cable? I’m not sure if I have one.
It should come with two cables. One a usb c to c, and the second a usb c to a. Mine came in a little box "hidden" behind the drive. However, you need to test them with a drive known to be good. I found 3 of the 4 cables I received with two of these drives to be defective.

I just purchased this external ssd and tried to use it for the first time. It will not show up on my computer anywhere, except on the "eject" tray. Why can't my new laptop see or open it the file location?
I suspect that it needs to be initialized and then formatted - operations you can do from disk management. However, it could also be a bad cable. I had a similar experience with this refurbished drive.

Can I add storage?
Yes you can. However to do so requires cloning the existing drive to one that is larger, and then removing the existing drive and replacing it with the larger drive.

What operating system is installed ?
My version of this laptop came loaded with Windows 11 Home. I see that there is another version of this laptop that comes loaded with Windows 11 S, that imposes some restrictions making it more secure.

Is the 8GB RAM memory expandable?
Yes it is. The 8GB of RAM it come with is soldered in, but there is an empty SO-DIMM slot where you can add additional RAM.
