Before buying I seen so many YouTube reviews that had a lot of negative to say about this device. I took a chance and I absolutely love it. I see on Best Buy the device has 2117 reviews averaging 4.5 stars. I think it goes to say that the average user finds this device awesome as opposed to the YouTubers who reviewed it.

I pre-ordered this knowing even though it was described as an amiibo that it wasn't. It made it appear that the brand was amiibo. Upon getting it I found that isn't even the brand. Not sure where they got the amiibo name. I thought I would get Mario since that is what is pictured, but I got Koopa Trooper. So you really don't know what you are getting until you get it. If you like surprises, go for it. If you want to know what you are getting; buy it in store or avoid it.

I'm using a Chromebook and it works fine with it. Not sure what Chromebook you have, but I haven't had an issue with it working. I have a pixel book and a cheaper Samsung Chromebook. It works with both without issue.

Can this device be kept of the internet w/o out setting a router to block? Does the app need internet for local control? What I want to know is can it be used just phone to switch or phone to router to switch vs. phone to cloud to switch?
Not completely clear what you are asking. The device requires intranet, which is the network within your home. You can also access the device via the internet so you can turn your lights on/off when away. You don't need to make any adjustments in your router. You add the device to your local network and you can control it from your phone or smart device, such as Alexa or Google, as long as your local network is up regardless if you have internet or not on that network.
