Another solid entry into the Askewniverse movies. Not as good as JSBSB or Dogma in my opinio , but still great.

I picked this up as an upgrade over the 32GB card that’s in my Geeni Doorscreen video doorbell. I’m glad I did.
Not only does it have the capacity to store much more video locally, it doesn’t stutter like the off-brand card I was using. It also handled 0 degree weather perfectly fine.
Overall, this is a solid performer.

I bought this because Comcast is moving away from including free cable boxes on their Xfinity service and I wanted to try their Stream app out. However, I did download other apps just to compare it to Android TV and my Apple TV 4k devices as well.
Overall, I've been disappointed so far.
It's not the overall device performance itself; that's actually really good. The quad-core processor helps out here. The app selection is tremendous; you get tons of options beyond the usual suspects you'd expect on a smart TV or streamer.
My disappointment comes with picture and audio quality. While 4k HDR is beautiful, picture stutter isn't terrific to see in the middle of a movie or TV show (app-dependent but it happens with Netflix, Amazon Video, and Disney+). The audio is also somewhat garbled, especially with 5.1 soundtracks (experienced in Apple TV+, Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, and the Roku Media Player app). I don't have these issues with other platforms.
Also disappointing is advertising inside the home screen. I don't pay what I did for a device just to see ads to sign up for services I don't want or need, which is part of the reason I bought this over a competing device from a company known for 2 day shipping.
Something else I found to be disappointing is some of the app selection. Not something I'd want my kid to come across, and not an issue on other platforms.
I know other streaming sticks come with is an HDMI extension cable. This is something Roku should have included for the price of this device. This limits where you can place the device (I wanted to put it on the back of my home theater receiver, but I can't have something sticking out 4 inches off the back of it). It also didn't fit in my downward-facing HDMI ports on my Sony XBR850C. It wouldn't work well with my LG LM57, as its HDMI ports face backward. It also wouldn't work well with my Samsung Sound+ 650 soundbar because of a lack of space by its HDMI ports. My XBR4? You'd see it sticking out the side and it wouldn't fit in the rear HDMI ports.
Finally, my biggest complaint is a combination of a not-good remote and no HDMI-CEC control. In 2019, no HDMI device should lack CEC, and the volume buttons on the side of the remote feel flimsy. I feel like I'm going to break it eventually.
Would I recommend this device? Over an Amazon Fire device, yes, but not over an Android TV device or especially an Apple TV device (if you're willing to spend Apple TV money on a streamer).

I would be the first to tell you that Toy Story 4 is nearly as good as the original Toy Story. While the writing for TS 2 and 3 were both great, they didn’t have anything that stuck out to me in terms characters. The new original characters in TS 4, however, were all terrific.
Also, the SteelBook looks amazing and the video quality is terrific.

I don’t have to review this classic because it’s absolute greatness. The HDR video looks like it was entirely re-rendered for this release and looks very, very good - better than I remember the theatrical release being back in the film days.

The Geeni Doorscreen has its pros and its cons, but mostly pros. It's relatively easy to configure, it's video is clear (especially for just being 720p), audio at the doorbell is loud but somewhat distorted from compression, and it's narrow so placement isn't as big of an issue as with other brands of video doorbell. It also records locally to microSD cards (mine has a 128GB card in it) instead of to the cloud, like most other video doorbells.
Setup is really straight-forward; you'll need an existing mechanical doorbell with either a 16 or 24 volt power supply rated for 10VA minimum. you may need to bypass your current doorbell's chime circuit, especially with a classic mechanical chime (Nu-Tone and Rittenhouse models that play a "Westminster" chime come to mind). Otherwise it's simple enough to do.
My biggest gripe with this doorbell has to be internet connectivity. I have a mesh network (Plume) and one of my pods became faulty, which I think ultimately led to the doorbell not wanting to stay connected to my network. My other issue is with the app; you can't change the doorbell alert tone for the iPhone version, so you're stuck with what sounds like the alert to let you know a nuclear plant is about to explode. The unit itself also feels a little cheap, but since it is cheap, that's really to be expected.
All in all, it's a good value for what it is.

(As watched on a Sony 55XBR850C tv with a LG UP870 and a Denon AVR3600H.)
Movie - 4/5
Story is the typical "aliens are invading, we gotta figure something out" plot. The mid-1990s twist added to it? We hack their ship, which is at least 250+ years ahead of us when it comes to technology, with a mid-1990s PowerBook.
Video - 3/5
I expected it to look better. The film looked terrific for the mid-1990s in terms of CGI, and even held up well 10 years later. The original Blu-Ray release looked good and didn't have that "special edition" look to the CGI. The 4k's CGI visuals were completely obvious in the more expansive scenes, but otherwise convincing in the "bombing" scenes, the first dogfight scene, the Area 51 Hanger, and the "in the mothership" scene where everything was CGI. Dynamic range was at least improved over the DVD and Blu-Ray releases, but color was a bit off. Streaming options were limited to 1080p for me and also lacked some visual punch.
Audio - 5/5
With a 7.1.2 audio setup, the scene ambience worked in DTS-X far better than I remember. If you closed your eyes, you could feel the opening titles whoosh past you, Russell's biplane fly overhead, and the battle scenes - whoa. Perhaps the best use of this technology, however, is the scene in the hanger when the guard tries to shoot a soda can and is blocked by the spaceship's shield; the pinging of the bullet is heard through all the speakers, adding depth that the 5.1 soundtrack lacked.
If you're a fan of the movie and you have a DTS-X capable surround setup, this is a worthwhile purchase. Don't expect to be wowed by the video, but do expect the audio to make up for it.

Disclaimer - I received one of these in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. But - and I'm actually glad that something happened where that review didn't get published - this is the first product I've received that I liked enough to buy more of. In fact, I have 4 now and I'm planning on replacing my existing Kasa and CNCT plugs with these in the future.
The Samsung SmartThings WiFi outlet is easily the best WiFi outlet on the market for the money. I own a few different competing brands and you either pay more for the same feature set, you pay about the same price for less features, or you pay less for something difficult to configure and constantly losing features.
So the big positive on this plug is it covers everything I need out of a WiFi outlet. You have easy setup, the ability to play well with WiFi mesh systems (I have Plume and had zero issues with connectivity so far), small size, a watt meter and energy usage monitoring (it keeps track of watt-hours used and shows you what the wattage draw is with frequent updates), Google and Alexa connectivity (not sure about Bixby since I don't have Samsung phones, watches, tablets, TVs, refrigerators, or connected speakers, but SmartThings should work with Bixby), IFTTT is mentioned (I didn't test it, however), support for devices using up to 15 amps (1800 watts), good range, and an easy-to-use app.
The only negative I can think of for this plug is I keep finding more uses for it.
All in all, if you're looking for a smartplug and you don't care what brand it is because price is a higher consideration than brand, Samsung SmartThings WiFi Plug is the absolute go-to in this regard.

I picked this up so I could charge both my iPad and my iPhone on the go. It works terrifically for this purpose. It also charges fairly quickly when using the iPad 12 watt charger compared to some 10,000 mah batteries I've used in the past.
If you need to keep your phone and tablet at 100 all day, this is a good go-to.

does this tablet support 2.4/5Ghz Wifi?

Yes it does, using the wireless N standard. But the connection is slow and 5 GHz can be finicky, even in the same room as the router.

It's actually a feature Google would have to enable. Until they do, 3rd-party Google Assistant speakers won't support calling.

Has anyone been able to get this device to successfully execute Switchmate commands? I can't.

Switchmate has made some changes to how their stuff works, so it now works through Google Assistant rather than saying "Hey Google, talk to Switchmate..." You'll need a Switchmate Power or Switchmate Zip if you currently only have the Switchmate switch modules though, as Google Assistant can't connect directly to the switch devices through Bluetooth. Switchmate Power and Switchmate Zip both function at WiFi to Bluetooth bridges for the Switchmate system.

I have two Switchmate Power outlets in my home because of range issues, along with 7 of the Switch modules in various locations.
