The so-called auto-cropping feature is awful on the V39 model. It consistently misses where the actual picture is so I am having to crop the images manually. Not a huge deal, but would be a lot faster if it actually worked.
Also, trying to scan anything above 1200 DPI is a joke. First, the scanner goes to "Not Responding" then it jumps way up to like 39 minutes remaining...My PC is plenty capable of running a scanner. 32GB of RAM, 6-core 4GHz processor. The scanner is only USB 2.0 anyway.
Scan Image quality from printed photos is quite good. I am impressed. The Color restore feature is nice for someone like me who is not adept at photo editing, and the dust remover is also pretty nice. Did not care for the photo brighter. Coming from an HP Photo scanner, and this is a huge improvement combined with the software it comes with, which looks basic but has lots of neat features. I'm doing uncompressed .TIFF 1200DPI 24-bit scans from older printed photos for storing memories for my family. Looking forward to this project very much. I hope the scanner can handle it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is the V600 model substantially faster than the V39 scanner? By how much?

How many scans is this scanner rated for before it'll stop working? And does the Preview scan count as 1 scan, effectively reducing the lifespan by a factor of half?

Could the scanner Auto-crop multiple 3x5 pictures that are scanned at one time and save as individual .TIFF files at 1200 DPI? Is the auto-drop feature very accurate? Thank you.

About how long to scan at 1200 DPI?

I am using USB 2.0 (Fastest supported speed by the V39 scanner.) It takes about 1:15 - 2:00 for a 4x6 print @ 1200DPI. But if you arrange (3) 4x6 prints on the scanner glass and do a preview with the Epson scan software you can then crop each image so that the scanner will scan just those images and create a separate file for each image. This process, however, takes the same amount of time for each 4x6 print. So, altogether it takes about 3:45 - 6:00 to scan 3 4x6 prints arranged on the 8.5x11.7 scanner glass. I think this is pretty ridiculous. It would be way better if the scanner could scan all three prints in one pass and then separate them, rather than making 3 separate passes and scans. This project is going to take forever, but I think it'll be worth it.
