I love it. It's my constant companion. The only improvement I can think of would be a fingerprint reader for easy log on (I got very used to that on my phone). I added a 128 G card to store my files on, removed a few unnecessary apps and have all the room I could want.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Installed as an additional drive for my desktop. It was was a plug-and-go operation and is hard at work as part of my backup cycle. A great buy at the time.

Is this a 2.5 hard drive if so can I use this for my laptop

Nope. 3.5". You could get a 3.5 enclosure and connect it via a USB port, but I suspect this isn't what you're looking for.

Can I use this on my security surveillance system.

I don't know why not. It sets up and functions on your system as just one (or two) additional hard drives with assigned drive letters. The one problem might be if If your surveillance system needs a high data rate and you connect it to other than a USB3 port. If your system lacks a USB3 port, you might want to install one to take full advantage.
