The NETGEAR wi-fi extender was much cheaper than the new versions, but it did the trick. Very easy to install. It does create a new network name with "EXT" after your existing one, but that is really not an issue. Very pleased with purchase and Best Buy sales support.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My wifi modem puts out about 200 mbps. How much wifi speed degradation is there with this extender?

All extenders will degrade service ... can be as much as 50%. I have 250 mbps and I used the extender to provide better signal in our sunroom. The speed still streams very effectively.

How does this work when router is in the house and I want to put the extender in a metal shop?

Depends on the distance from you router. If it is an outside building away from the house, you will probably have challenges. The extender is made to go in between the router and the area you are trying to extend into.
