I bought it to play CDs thru my stereo receiver. It does that, with good sound, but for fast forward, slow or fast reverse, and minute or counting display, you have to play it thru a tv, which I don't want to do. Also I was surprised to find it doesn't have an HDMI output.
I did not try a DVD in it as I already have a good Blu-Ray DVD player.
