Can you use this with a computer or is it JUST FOR SURVEILLANCE? I'd love to try it out. I need to zoom with my students and so many places are out of cameras. i need an external camera for my desktop Dell computer.

Do I need to use the ethernet cable if I have it connected to Cable in the wall?

No. Not if you are using it to connect to your Cable, Internet Service provider's wi-fi. But if your computer or any other component that you are trying to connect is not wi-fi compatible, or wi-fi capable, then yes you will have to use the ethernet cable, if your component has a ethernet port.
